BRAWLEY — With the regular season coming to a close and the field narrowing, the Imperial High girls’ golf team made a big statement on their way to being crowned the Imperial Valley League champions on Tuesday as they won IVL match No. 6 at Del Rio Country Club here.
The Tigers carded a total of 250, edging out Brawley Union (270), Southwest (273), Palo Verde Valley (286), Central Union (295) and Holtville with a no score.
Imperial has won all six of the IVL matches and will officially lock up the title after match No. 7.
In the individual competition of match No. 6, it was Imperial freshman Raegan Preece who took home another medal by shooting a 42 through the front nine. It was a tight match as Palo Verde Valley’s Hanna Browder shot a 43 and Preece’s sisters, Camille and Morgan shot a 44 and 45 respectively.
The next IVL match will have big implications for the individual player of the year race, as the top two are separated by three strokes.
Browder leads with a collective 214, while Raegan trails by three strokes.
The final IVL match of the year is set for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Barbara Worth Country Club in Holtville where there should be some tough completion to close out this season’s chapter.
