On the men’s side…
For nearly the entire first half Wednesday, Imperial Valley hung with the Arizona Western men’s soccer team.
But from the 40th-minute on, the Matadors took control of the game, going on to win 3-0 at AWC Soccer Field.
For AWC, Victor Romero scored in the 40th minute off an assist from Edgar Jimenez, Enrique Lopez scored in the 53rd minute and Henry Rodriguez scored in the 67th minute.
Romero’s goal was his second of the season, while Jimenez and Rodriguez’s goals were their first. Rodriguez was making his first appearance in a game this season.
The Matadors (2-3-0) finished with 26 more shots on goal than IVC.
“As the game went on, our level of play improved and that is what we wanted to see from our team,” coach Kenny Dale said. “Making adjustments and reading what’s in front of them.”
