Imperial Valley Symphony set to delight Valley for 41st Year

EL CENTRO – The Imperial Valley Symphony opens its 41st Season on Saturday, November 15. at 7:30 p.m. in the Jimmie Cannon Theatre on the campus of Southwest High School, 2001 Ocotillo Dr., El Centro.

Franz von Suppe’s Poet and Peasant Overture, conducted by Mr. Esteban Corona, will open the concert. Tchaikovsky’s Military March in B-flat will follow, conducted by founding music director Joel Jacklich. Then Jacklich will conduct his own composition, Passacaglia and Fughetta in Memoriam: Elliot Del Borgo (1938-2013), written this last spring to mask the passing of internationally-known composer Elliot Del Borgo who died in Florida just one week after premiering his last commission here in El Centro at the 6th Annual Concert of Premieres at Wilson Junior High School.

Mr. Corona will return to the podium for Dvorak’s Slavonic Dance, Op. 46, #8, which will conclude the first half of the program.

After intermission, Dr. Matthew Busse will conduct the orchestra in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 in A Major.

The concert is free, although tax-deductible donations will gladly be accepted in the foyer to help absorb the $7,000 expense of mounting this concert. Children are always welcome when accompanied and supervised by an adult. For more information call (760) 352-8791.
