EAST COUNTY — A 71-year-old Imperial Valley man died Friday after his motorcycle crashed on County S2 south of Sweeney Canyon, about 12 miles north of Boulevard, the California Highway Patrol said.
The man was riding a 2010 Harley-Davidson north on S2 about 2:35 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve and the motorcycle veered onto a dirt shoulder, CHP Officer Kevin Pearlstein said. The rider overcorrected and the motorcycle veered onto the dirt shoulder on the opposite side of the road. He was thrown from the bike.
Emergency crews responded and treated him, but he died about an hour later, Pearlstein said.
Officers are investigating whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, Pearlstein said.
The man’s name was not released pending notification of family.
