EL CENTRO – Susan Giller, APR, and Linda Sanchez of Valley Solutions Group, Inc. received an award from Public Relations Society of America  (PRSA) San Diego/Imperial County Chapter for their work on the periodic news magazine Abundant Opportunities – Renewable Energy Leader.

This is the second award this year for the magazine that is developed by Valley Solutions for Imperial Valley Economic Development Corp. (IVEDC) as part of its effort to market the region. In April, the magazine won an award from the California Association for Local Economic Development (CALED) for being a unique, innovative best practice worth emulating.

“We are honored and humbled to be recognized by public relations professionals throughout the region,” Giller said.

Sanchez added, “It is a privilege to help tell the Imperial Valley’s story and to be part of the effort to market the region.”

The Bronze Bernays Award received for the magazine was presented at a recent PRSA San Diego/Imperial County gala held at Sea World that recognized the industry’s best public relations tactics, campaigns and professionals in a variety of categories. Judging was based on planning/content, creativity/ quality, technical excellence and results. This year’s entries were judged by by senior-level and Accredited Public Relations (APR) -certified professionals from the PRSA Las Vegas Valley Chapter.

Abundant Opportunities – Renewable Energy Leader is an annual magazine that focuses on all aspects of renewable energy development in the Imperial Valley. The 44-page, process-color magazine has a press run of 5,000. It also is available online at www.ivedc.com. The next edition will be published in March 2014 to coincide with IVEDC’s annual Renewable Energy Summit.

The magazine grew out of a public relations plan Valley Solutions Group developed with IVEDC to address the fact that hit-and-miss national news media coverage focuses so much on unemployment statistics and economic concerns that the region’s potential remained relatively unknown to the global community of developers.

With a professionally prepared news magazine dedicated to covering Imperial Valley’s renewable energy development, IVEDC gets a comprehensive, credible information source and a tool to frame a more complete conversation with its audiences. Additionally, the magazine provides a way for IIVEDC investors, service providers and Imperial Valley businesses to advertise to the broader market of renewable energy developers and to offset the cost of the publication.

IVEDC President and CEO Timothy E. Kelley, said “Abundant Opportunities – Renewable Energy Leader” has become an essential and highly effective element in IVEDC’s marketing strategy… The magazine has authoritative information unavailable elsewhere and images and articles that make people perk up and pay attention.”

IVEDC uses the magazine as part of its outreach effort at trade shows around the global. Additionally, following the release of the magazine, traffic to IVEDC’s website more than doubles.
