EL CENTRO – The Imperial Valley Interfaith Council will hold a special gathering in recognition of National Day of Prayer which has been held throughout the United States on an annual basis since President Harry Truman signed a bill proclaiming it in 1952. President Reagan amended the law in 1988, designating the first Thursday of May each year as the National Day of Prayer. The group invites all to join in this interfaith event in the Valley:

The event is free and open to the public. According to a press release, they will share their faith traditions and offer prayers reflecting their role as human beings to respect and protect all of Godâ€™s creation.
Friends and neighbors can gather for refreshments beginning at 6:30 p.m. The program will begin at 7:00 p.m.
The Imperial Valley Interfaith Council has been in existence for a decade and has brought together Roman Catholics, Mainline Protestants, Evangelical Christians, Muslims, Jews, and Bahaâ€™is to share common values.
