Shelves are bare at the Imperial Valley Food Bank and the hope is that these shelves would be filled to help that goal the Food Bank is having a fundraiser dinner held on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 5:30 p.m.
“We need the funds and it’s a good way to raise funds for feeding our people here in the community,” Food Bank Specialist, Monica De Leon said.
De Leon says the food bank is always in need of food not just during the holidays. This year the food bank is operating with 50,000 pounds less food. Hunger is a problem that always exists. We can only take care of it one day at a time. So we always need food,” De Leon said.
Food that they try to feed the 43 percent of Imperial Valley children that go without a meal.
“The numbers are growing but the food we are getting is either the same or less. So, we need the help of our community to be able to support and continue to provide food for our children,” De Leon said.
If you’d like tickets you can get them at the Brawley Chamber of Commerce or the El Centro Chamber of Commerce or at the Imperial Valley Food Bank.
The fundraiser will begin at 5:30 p.m. this Saturday the 12th at the Five Crowns Cooling in Brawley and dress in your denim.
