HOLTVILLE – The Imperial High girls’ golf team took a big step towards capturing an Imperial Valley League title as they won IVL Match No. 3 at Barbara Worth Country Club here Wednesday.
Imperial has won all of the league matches so far this season.
“They played very well and we are still undefeated so I think we’re doing pretty good right now,” Imperial head coach Joe Barker said. “They’re determined and they don’t quit despite the competition or the conditions … they give me 100 percent out there.”
Imperial shot a collective score of 296 through the back nine holes edging out Brawley Union (326), Palo Verde Valley (331), Southwest (359), Central Union (368) and Holtville (403) to take the win.
The medalist of the match was Imperial freshman Raegan Preece who shot a 46.
“She obviously did quite well against some stiff competition from the other schools,” Barker said. “Her poise as a freshman is impressive … she doesn’t get nervous, nothing bothers her and she just focuses on golf.”
Palo Verde Valley shot a 48 and Brawley’s Alexcess Tomboc carded a 50 to round out the top three finishers.
“I just want them to be prepared,” Barker said. “They’ve played that course once already and I want them to improve from their mistakes and play mental golf, smart golf.”
IVL Match No. 4 will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Blythe Municipal Golf Course.[envira-gallery id=”64477″]
