IMPERIAL â€“ Imperial hosted the Holtville All-Star team July 5 for a night of baseball, where Imperial finished strong defeating Holtville 6-1.
As the home team, Imperial took to the plate with Ryan Bonillas (10) who led off with a hard grounder to shortstop, and beat the throw for a single. With Bonillas on first, Mario Jimenez (6) swung away, hitting a towering double to left field to advance the runner. With runners in scoring position, Brian Martin (2) finished Imperial’s at-bat with a profitable hit to right field, Â and Bonillas scored for the first run of the game.
However, Holtville battled back on defense getting the final out to end Imperial’s first inning without any more runs. Holtville’sÂ first at-bat proved successful with Norberto Irvingavay (5) hitting a towering solo home-run to tie up the game.
The game remained tied until the top of the third inning, where Imperial continued a hot streak at the plate scoring three runs to take back the lead. Bonillas (10) began the inning rally with a double hit through the second base gap. Martin (2) also showcased his talent with a hard line drive past second base for a triple, sending Bonillas home for the first run of the inning.
Xavier Soto (40) followed with a single up the middle, allowing Martin to score. To end the inning for Imperial, Roman Collado (7) crushed a high thrown fast ball to right field for a triple and sent Soto scoring for Imperial’s final run of the inning. By the end of third inning, Imperial had increased their lead 4-1.
Moving into the fifth inning, Bonillas, Jaylan Fitzpatrick (23), and Jimenez did a great job at the plate scoring two more runs for Imperial, driving the score 6-1. Through the sixth inning Imperial not only finished strong at the plate, but held Holtville to one run with great defense.
