IMPERIAL â€“ The Imperial Sea Lions hosted the El Centro Sunsations for a swim meet July 7, where Imperial came out on top with an overall team score of 3196.5.
Both teams of boys and girls ages five through 18 competed to display their talents and attempt to claim victory for the team.
To start off the first of the 48 events, girls lined up for the six and under butterfly. Gianna Finnell finished first with a big lead and a time of 34.90, and scored 20 points for Imperial. The boyâ€™s 50-yard butterfly started with a quick break as the racers fought for the win. In a tight race, Logan Rider pulled past Xavier Galindo, earning the win for Imperial with a time of 28.47.
With Imperial in the lead, the next race called to the starting line was the 11-12 girl’s 50 yard backstroke. Â Alexandra Landeros took this event with a final time of 40.88 to continue to add to Imperial’s lead. Event 21 was the 13-14 girlâ€™s backstroke, and El Centro came out on top in this heat with Allyson Rodriquez finishing first with a time of 52.23 and Genesis Gallegos a close second for the Sunsations.
To end the meet, the freestyle swimmers prepared for their races for a last chance of earning points. For boys six and under, Raul Grado took his race with a time of 28.09. Finishing second for this race, Gabriel Gonzales of the Sunsations tried to grab all the point he could. Moving into the older swimmers, 11-12 girls had Arianna Chavarria winning with a time of 30.78. For the last race of the meet, 15-18 boys took their marks on the blocks, and Marco Peralta pulled a good win for the Sunsations with a time of 26.35. Despite the final efforts of the Sunsations, the Imperial Sea lions finished with higher team score, beating El Centro.[envira-gallery id=”80671″]
