Imperial County given $400,000 energy grant

California Energy Commission

IMPERIAL – The California Energy Commission is giving a grant of nearly $400,000 to Imperial County for renewable energy and conservation planning.

State Assemblyman V. Manuel Pérez said in a statement Tuesday that he was pleased to see both Imperial and Riverside counties among those awarded grants. Riverside County is receiving a $700,000 grant.

In 2011, Pérez backed legislation that authorized up to $7 million for the Energy Commission to provide grants to 15 California counties to help them come up with regulations and policies for renewable energy development.

Pérez, D-Imperial/Coachella, thanked Assemblyman Steve Fox, D-Palmdale, for joining with him in drafting legislation last year to extend the program.
