IMPERIAL-The City of Imperial held their City Council meeting Wednesday evening inside the local library. Mayor Geoff Dale presented a proclamation award to the 4-H All-Stars and to other participating 4-H members.
Council Members and the Mayor are proclaiming the second week of October as “National 4-H Week.” Three different All-Star members took turns reading a speech about the different reasons 4-H is important and fun for children of all ages.
“When I was in 4-H in 1984 I got the Reserve Supreme Grand Champion award and Tim Holbrook took Supreme Grand Champion. I don’t think Imperial has had a clean sweep since then, hopefully you guys will accomplish that this upcoming year,” Mayor Dale said about the top two awards for market at the California Fair and Fiesta.
Local 4-H members and their families filled the room is support of the proclaimation. The visitors also waited to hear the full agenda for the upcoming SCORE Challenge that will be taking place locally on September 25 thru to the 28th.
SCORE Challenge CEO Roger Norman expressed the excitement building for the event. “We feel the race will be even better than last spring due to the course is narrowed down to one area, this event also gives the racers a chance to drive at night time and day time.”
The 2014 World Desert Championship events have been ongoing since February 27. The first race was the 28th Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250. On April 25, the 2nd SCORE Imperial Valley 250 took place by Plaster city. The next race was the 46th Tecate SCORE Baja 500 on June 5th. The fourth race will be the Inaugural SCORE Desert Challenge in Imperial this month. After September 28th the challenge will be traveling to the 47th Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 on November 12 thru the 16th.
