Immigration Forum to be Held at IVC

EL CENTRO – Immigration is a hot topic in the United States and the Imperial Valley, like all border regions, is right in the middle of the situation. The Imperial Valley Immigration Coalition is presenting an open forum for the local community to participate in the discussion and learn more about how it affects us locally.

The Immigration Forum of the Imperial Valley will be held Saturday, November 22 from 9 am to Noon at the IVC Science Auditorium. During the forum participants will address immigration, the facts and myths of immigration and with the help of the community discuss action steps the County should take regarding the issue.

Keynote speaker for the event will be John Fanestil, an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church. Fanestil is an experienced pastor and philanthropic executive focusing on education of the realities of the US-Mexico Border Region.

Additional participants include El Centro Mayor Cheryl Viegas-Walker; El Centro Council Member Alex Cardenas; Rev. Dr. Ron Griffen; and Rev. Suzi Jacobson.

The event is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend and join a community conversation on the issue of immigration in the Imperial Valley.
