EL CENTRO – The Imagine Elementary School Color Guard and Rifle Team, kindergarten through sixth grade, ram-rod straight, marched in cadence with flags flying and wooden rifles in position into the County Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday.
The room stood in honor of the United States flag and in support of the earnest children who obviously had trained hard as the young captain barked out orders and the young team responded in synch and on beat.
The students, K-6, had entered the Sharp’s International Judging Association Elementary School, State, Color Guard and Rifle Drill Team Championship on February 16. The Championship was held in San Diego. The Imagine School Color Guard won the competition.
The Supervisors adopted and presented a resolution honoring the group. Assemblyman Manuel Perez presented an Assembly resolution recognizing the team. A representative from State Senator Ben Hueso’s office presented them with a Senate resolution, and Rebecca Terrazas-Baxter, representing Congressman Juan Vargas presented them with a Congressional Proclamation, that will be read into the Congressional Record- once the current shut down is over.
Principal Villalon told the board what an honor for their drill team to be put in the Congressional Record. Very few elementary schools make it into the Record, according to Villalon, and he said everyone should be very proud of their accomplishments.[nggallery id=63]
