IID warns customers of phone scam

IID front yardEL CENTRO – The Imperial Irrigation District has been informed that some of its customers have been contacted by a caller claiming to represent their “electric company.” The caller requests credit card information and threatens disconnection if the information is not provided.

These calls are not associated with IID, said Robert N. Fugett, general superintendent of customer service administration. “The district takes customer privacy very seriously. We encourage our customers to guard and protect their personal information,” he said.

When it comes to disconnecting a customer for nonpayment, IID does not call residential or commercial customers and demand payment. Instead, customers are notified by mail, door hangers or through our automated courtesy-alert phone system.

If you are contacted by someone you suspect may not be legitimate, IID asks that you hang up and contact the district at 1-800-303-7756 to ensure the call is valid.
