EL CENTRO – Imperial Irrigation District is celebrating Public Power Week Oct. 5-11 following a proclamation passed by the IID Board of Directors. The district joins more than 2,000 other electric utilities that provide electricity on a not-for-profit basis.
IID provides reliable electric service to over 145,000 customers in the Imperial and Coachella valleys with some of the lowest energy rates in California. Each day public power providers across the nation light up homes, businesses and streets of the communities they serve, providing the advantages of lower rates, responsiveness to customer concerns, local control and community focus.
In recognition of Public Power Week, IID will host a series of customer appreciation events at several locations in the Imperial Valley. At each event, participating customers will receive an LED (light emitting diode) light bulb and energy efficiency tips. Additionally, IID’s social media channels will post the benefits of public power along with a sweepstakes for an energy efficiency kit daily.
LED’s produce the same amount of light, use 75 percent less electricity and last longer than standard incandescent bulbs.
Schedule of events:
· Oct. 6 – 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., El Centro IID pay station; 3-5:30 p.m., Brawley IID pay station
· Oct. 7 – 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Calexico IID pay station; 3-5:30 p.m., Imperial IID pay station
These events are open to IID customers. Participants must present a valid California ID or driver license and a copy of their IID utility bill. The LEDS light bulbs will be provided while supplies last.
