EL CENTRO -Imperial Irrigation District has extended its 2013 On-Farm Efficiency Conservation Pilot Program to run through August 2014 and is currently soliciting conservation proposals from its agricultural water customers.
The program’s goal is to incentivize agricultural water customers to conserve 20,000 acre-feet in 2013 and 40,000 acre-feet in 2014 by implementing water use efficiency improvement projects on their farms. Participants will be paid $285 per acre-foot of delivered water reduction, verified against historical deliveries specific to each field and crop. The conserved water will go toward meeting IID’s scheduled water transfer and payback obligations.
IID staff will be actively contacting farmers to explain the program and encourage their enrollment.
Program information, proposal forms and related documents will be mailed to customers and will be available at www.iid.com/onfarmconservation and IID water division offices.
