EL CENTRO – At the regular meeting of the Imperial Irrigation District Board of Directors Tuesday, January 22, a ceremonial check for $91,907 was presented to Ken Wuytens, executive director of United Way of Imperial Valley, for the Imperial County portion, by the IID United Way Committee.
The United Way is a nonprofit organization that brings together community volunteers and agencies to provide health and human services to people in the Imperial and Riverside counties.
IID conducts an annual United Way campaign asking employees to contribute.
Cardenas Markets, in Southern California, received an incentive check for $120,735.
Through the assistance of the district’s Public Benefits Custom Energy Solutions program, Cardenas Markets completed energy conservation projects that consisted of retrofitting each of the store’s refrigeration motors with variable frequency drive controls and upgrading existing motors to electronically-commutated motors. The energy efficiency measures implemented through this program will provide an estimated annual energy savings of 862,395 kWh and 1112.28 kW in demand reduction.
In other business, IID Directors filled positions in a variety of committees;
Vice President James Hanks and Director Steve Benson will serve on the Conservation Committee.
This committee will address several issues regarding payback of the 2011 and 2012 overruns and design of on-farm and system conservation programs.
Director Norma Galindo will serve on the Calexico Enterprise Zone.
President Matt Dessert will serve on the Coachella Valley Association of Governments. Director Galindo will be alternate.
Director Steve Benson will serve on the California Farm Water Coalition.
President Matt Dessert and Vice President James Hanks will serve on the County/IID Two-on-Two Committee.
Director Bruce Kuhn will serve on the Imperial Valley Transportation Committee.
Director Steve Benson will serve on the Imperial Valley Economic Development Corporation.
Vice President James Hanks will serve on the Imperial Valley Enterprise Zone.
Director Bruce Kuhn will serve on the International Boundary & Water Commission Colorado River Citizens’ Forum.
President Matt Dessert will serve on the Salton Sea Authority along with current member James Hanks.
In other District business, the Board voted to sponsor the 2013 California Mid-Winter Fair in the amount of $7,500.
This year’s theme is “Experience the Magic.”
This is the 105th year for the fair. It will run March 1 through 10.
The Board also voted to sponsor the Riverside County Fair in the amount of $5000.
