Sherry Leon, Area Agency on Aging, and John Hernandez, United Seniors, argued in front of the Board of Supervisors on the need of programs and financing for the aging population in the county.
They were there to ask for the county to authorize and approve the Imperial County Area Agency on Aging entering into an agreement with the California Department of Aging in the amount of $56,648 for the present fiscal year.
The Agency would use the funds to provide nutritional education to those 60 years and older and that are eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
The board reminded both that the county had stepped up to pay for the Meals on Wheels when Federal and State funds were cut. Several supervisors said the board had a good record of helping fund the needy seniors and if the United Seniors and the Agency on Aging came up with a program, the board would seriously consider funding it.
