I-10 Freeway Shooting Near Palm Desert Leaves Teen Dead

One suspect has been caught, and another is sought, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

PALM DESERT, CA – One suspect was in custody Tuesday and another was being sought in connection with a shooting on Interstate 10 in the Palm Desert area that took the life of a 19-year-old Coachella woman.

Maria Guadalupe Mendoza died at a hospital after being shot about 3:20 p.m. Sunday on the interstate between Bob Hope Drive and Washington Street, according to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Buompensiero.

The arrested suspect was identified as Andrew Castro, 19, of Palm Springs. He was booked into the Indio jail on a charge of murder, and his bail was set at $1 million, booking records indicated.
A second suspect, Damian De Los Santos, 22, of Cathedral City, remains at large and should be considered armed and dangerous, Buompensiero said.
