CALEXICO — According to the Calexico Police Department, a female reportedly walked into the Calexico Walmart before 2:30 p.m. March 15 and delivered a note to a cashier.
The female spoke to the cashier saying she needed to withdraw some money. However, according to reports, on the note was written something along the lines of, “Call the police. I need help.”
At approximately 2:36 p.m., the store’s cashier called the Calexico Police Department. Speaking with the police dispatcher, the cashier informed Calexico PD dispatch of the note. The CPD dispatch instructed the cashier to hand the phone over to the female.
The female victim was given instructions while officers were sent to her location. The female waited at the money distribution center until help arrived. After officers arrived, and based on information provided to them by CPD dispatch, the police decided to make contact with a suspicious male and the female with him.
The suspect, upon seeing the officers, reached into his left pants’ pocket and turned to the female victim standing next to him.
According to reports, the police commanded the male to take his hand out of his pocket and then the suspect allegedly became aggressive towards the officers. The officers physically subdued the male and upon searching him for weapons, a kitchen knife was located in his left pants’ pocket, while another knife was located in his right pants pocket, reports stated.
The police made contact with the female victim, who claimed she was taken, held against her will, and that she allegedly was being forced to retrieve cash.
The suspect, identified as Jose Guadalupe Torres from the city of Thousand Palms was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, robbery, involuntary imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, possession of a concealed weapon, violation of a restraining order and possibly other charges.
According to police reports, the suspect is a convicted felon currently on parole with a restraining order in place against him by the victim.
The victim, whose identification was withheld, had previously sustained multiple stab wounds to both her legs and was being treated at the scene by Calexico Fire Department Emergency Medical Personnel.
This incident is currently under active investigation.
