PALM SPRINGS – Highway 111 was temporarily closed in between Interstate 10 and Palm Springs after a big rig overturned on the roadway Monday morning, the California Highway Patrol and Palm Springs police say. Both southbound lanes of the highway were initially closed, while the northbound side remained open.
California Highway Patrol logs indicated that the truck was blown over around 10:30 a.m.
“Both southbound lanes of SR 111 are closed from eastbound I-10 due to a collision in the Windy Point area, between I-10 and Palm Springs,” PSPD said in a news release at 10:55 a.m. “The northbound lanes remain open.”
However, by noon, one of the soutbound lanes was reopened, CHP logs indicated. All lanes were open come 1 p.m.
Police suggested that drivers use southbound Indian Canyon Drive or Gene Autry Trail from the I-10 to avoid the wreck.
