IMPERIAL COUNTY – A high wind warning for the Imperial Valley has been issued for noon Wednesday Sept. 25 through 8 a.m. Thursday Sept. 26, with the strongest winds expected Wednesday evening.
“Onshore flow will continue to strengthen tonight . . . resulting in local 35 to 45 mph west wind gusts in the favored mountain passes and canyons,” the National Weather Service advised in an update late Tuesday.
“A strong low pressure system will move into the region. Westerly surface winds will begin to increase later this afternoon with gusts to 30 MPH common across the area,” according to the NWS.
The Service warned that the strongest winds are expected in the gap passes the far southwestern Imperial County where sustained winds will create blowing dust.
