Â IMPERIALÂ COUNTY – A high wind warning for the Imperial Valley has been issued forÂ noon Wednesday Sept. 25 through 8 a.m. Thursday Sept. 26, with the strongest winds expected Wednesday evening.
“Onshore flow will continue to strengthen tonight . . . resulting in local 35 to 45 mph west wind gusts in the favored mountain passes and canyons,” the National Weather Service advised in an update lateÂ Tuesday.
â€œA strong low pressure system will move into the region. Westerly surface winds will begin to increase later this afternoon with gusts to 30 MPH common across the area,â€ according to the NWS.
The Service warned that the strongest winds are expected in the gap passes the far southwestern Imperial County where sustained winds will create blowing dust.
