EL CENTRO – The County awarded Pyramid Construction & Aggregates Inc the contract as lowest responsible bidder for sidewalk improvement surrounding Heber Junior High. This is part of the Safe Routes to School campaign.
The contract is not to exceed $491,470. The County has spent over $1 million for new sidewalks and improved sidewalks in Heber over the last three years. The purpose is to make walking to school safe for school children by keeping them on the sidewalks versus the streets.
Public Works Director, William Brunet, said there were four bids submitted with all bids being fairly close in amounts. “The contractors are sharpening their pencils and getting down to no frills when they bid, that is why they are close. The taxpayers are getting their value with these bids.”
Brunet mentioned that the work would be completed over the summer so by the time schools started in the fall there should be no construction disruption and the traffic will not be impacted.
