I know what you are thinking…Jim is losing it!
It is not January, but September! Well I may be losing it, but for many men, it is a new year. If you are a father, it is a new year of getting your kids into the right school, class, attitude, etc. If you work in education, you are beginning anew with a new crop of challenges. For many of us, when we come back from vacation, we are refreshed and willing to fight the good fight once again.
If you are poor like many of us, you didn’t get to vacate, but you can celebrate the end of the heat, and the beginning of a new beautiful fall here in the valley of the Son!
Be glad for beginnings. The Word says, “This is the day the Lord has made, and we will be glad and rejoice in it!” (Psalm 118:24, NLT). He really wants us to be happy and enjoy the day, but also the week, month and year! Since this is a new year and what will you do?? Many men will just try to recycle what happened last year and just keep on stumbling forward.
If you look at what God has in store for you, be encouraged. He has many good plans for you, but like any coach, the players have to follow the plays. In a short Google, I see that God wants to bless and prosper you, you are a new creation, and he wants you to let go of the past and focus on the future and what blessings He has for you. He also wants you to be more focused on Christ Jesus.
All our walks are different and we are in a different place. Ecclesiastes chapter three, talks about “there is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens.” Some should reap, some should sow, some gather, others caste away; a time to be silent, a time to speak, etc. Wherever you are, the most important thing is to be close to God, His Word and His children.
That wise guy Solomon, talked about growth and if you want to grow yourself, or your family, the church is here to help you.
I know that Christ Community Church has a 4 week seminar starting 9/15. I know that WOVEN has a women’s conference on 9/21. On 9/29, churches are coming together at the BUHS cafeteria for a time to pray for the school, students and our leaders. Your church has things going on, but the question is: have you hooked your car to God’s locomotive that will take you many places this year where you have never gone? If you are not serving in your church, get busy!
God said it first and then Dylan later said, “you gotta serve somebody!” Will it be yourself, again, or will it be your Savior.
At this point you may be reading and say, “Well, I might serve, but I don’t know if I have a Savior?” To that I quickly respond, “Are you a sinner? If the answer is yes, then go on. “Do you believe Jesus was the Son of God, who died for your sins on the cross and was resurrected on the third day?” If the answer to that is yes, then “Do you want Christ to come into your heart and change your life?” If that is yes, you now have a Savior, but you can’t really serve Him if you don’t know Him. Get in a church, Bubba, and learn more about your Boss! Get on a team and get to work in the coach’s playbook (Bible)! Go to the HR department (Holy Roles) and when you serve, you will find out about your spiritual gifts and a job description for your new eternal career.
Get connected, invested and sold out for Christ. Make this a better year, and maybe the best year for you as a father, husband, employee, or servant in your church. If you don’t have a church, come to Valley Baptist (344-3831) or one that is close to your house, and make sure their teaching is close to the Bible. Last year it was a very difficult and painful journey in our church. We just kicked off the new year last week with a powerful, sweet time of prayer on Sunday night. It is going to be a good year because “God is good, all the time and all the time, God is good!”
