EL CENTRO – On Friday, October 4, at 7:30 a.m., Jonathan Campos, 18 of Calexico, was driving a 2004 Nissan Maxima westbound on Highway 98, west of Anderholt Road.
Campus allowed his vehicle to leave the roadway in a northwesterly direction where a 2009 Freight liner truck/tractor and semi- trailer was parked on the north shoulder. The Nissan entered the right shoulder and collided into the left rear of the semi-trailer.
The force of the impact caused the Nissan to rotate in a clockwise manner before coming to rest in a southerly direction.Â
As a result of this collision the right front passenger, a 22 male from Calexico, suffered fatal injuries.
Campos and his rear passenger, Jose Parra, 23 of El Centro, suffered unknown internal injuries.
The driver was taken to ECRMC by Gold Cross ambulance and the rear passenger, who wasn’t wearing his seat belt, was flown to Desert Regional Medical Center by REACH Helicopter.Â
This Collision is still under investigation.Â
