Edith Trejo, 48, Panorama City, was driving her 2012 Honda Thursday afternoon, southbound on Highway 86 north of Heber Road at or about the speed limit of 65 m.p.h.
Vanity Gomez, 24, El Centro, was driving her 2013 Honda northbound on 86 intending to go westbound on Heber Road. Vanity Gomez had her attention drawn to a truck that was stopped at the STOP sign west of her location, facing opposite of the direction she was intending to go.
Gomez began to turn towards the left onto Heber Road and failed to see Edith Trejo approaching to her right font. Gomez pulled out directly in front of Trejo, preventing either party the ability to apply their brakes. The right front of Trejo’s vehicle struck the right front side of Gomez’s vehicle where passenger Carlotta Trejo, 81, Panorama City, was sitting, causing major front-end damage to both vehicles.
Carlotta Trejo was transported to the El Centro Regional Medical Center and was pronounced deceased by Emergency Room physician Vilke due to blunt force trauma. The other two passengers were well enough to seek their own medical aid.
