Ten-year old Emma Walker from Brawley is the NoCCA and Desert Review December Artist of the Month. This accomplished child already has been performing for many years locally.
At eight, Emma was asked to sing at the local rodeo, also at other events.
“I started singing at a lot of places. That is when I realized I had a special talent from God for singing. A lot of people told me I had a pretty voice and I grew in confidence.”
Emma’s inspiration comes from a musical family on both sides, but most specifically, her guitar-playing father who encouraged her to sing along with his strumming.
“My mom inspires me and helps me and always says I sing well,” Emma added making sure both parents were credited.
Her favorite artists include music by the Christian organization, Hillsong. She also likes to sing along to Disney songs. “I really like Peter, Paul, and Mary, their song ‘500 Miles’ is one of my favorite songs to sing.”
Music enables Emma to feel good inside the ten year old revealed. “It makes me feel happy, joyful and it cheers me up when I am sad.”
Emma has recently returned from Las Vegas where she sang the National Anthem in front of 18,000 people at the National Finals Rodeo.
Nevertheless, her goals are simple- she wants to please God and go wherever He sends her. “If He sends me to sing somewhere, I will do it.
