EL CENTRO – On Tuesday, the Board of Supervisors honored Felix and Soledad Mesa for their 20th year of publishing their Spanish language weekly.
Their first printed work was on February 10, 1994 from their small apartment in El Centro.
At that time, there were no newspapers that reached out to the Hispanic communities.
Felix Meza said, “I remember for the first ten – fifteen years we worked 16 hours a day. We tried to cover everything in the Valley. I hardly remember my children growing up.”
Meza said they still try to cover all the important events, but no longer attempt to cover everything happening now in the Valley.
He can be seen every Tuesday morning at the Board of Supervisors meeting, then that afternoon at the IID Board meeting, and many times after that he will be at a city council.
“And I still have to write everything I learned,” Meza said.
