Calexico, Calif. â€“ Saturday, U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Calexico station arrested two men attempting to smuggle approximately 96 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value of more than $77,000.
The incident occurred at around 11 a.m., when Border Patrol agents detected two men walking north from the United States/Mexico International Boundary fence in a remote desert area east of Calexico.
Border Patrol agents responded to the area and encountered the two men hiding in the thick brush, each holding a large bundle with rope straps attached. The men, 23 and 27-years-old, both Mexican nationals, were arrested and transported to the station for further processing. The bundles tested positive for marijuana.
The men and marijuana were turned over to the Imperial County Sheriffâ€™s Office.
