EL CENTRO – On Wednesday, July 13, a 33-year-old El Centro transient was arrested after allegedly threatening and using a knife on a victim during a robbery that occurred on the 400 block of State Street at 4:50 a.m.
According to the press release, Officers Therese Nunnally and John Cesena were dispatched to the area where the victim informed officers the suspect allegedly pointed an open-blade knife at him, saying “Give up the bags of recyclables or you’re going to get beat up.”
The victim claimed to fear for his safety and turned the bags of recyclables over to the suspect. The victim was not injured and the suspect fled the area.
Initial searches for the suspect were unsuccessful. At 5:47 a.m. officers were directed to the 300 block of Broadway Avenue by the victim who stated the suspect was in the area. Using the description relayed by the victim, officers located and arrested the suspect identified as John Molina, who allegedly attempted to flee on a bicycle as officers approached him.
Officers located a knife in Molina’s pants pocket that was identified by the victim as the one used in the robbery. The victim’s property was recovered and returned. Molina was subsequently booked at Imperial County Jail on suspicion of felony robbery.
