EL CENTRO – El Centro Regional Medical Center (ECRMC) has named Chief Operations Officer (COO), Tomas Virgen, RN, BSN, MSN, as Interim CEO to take over when current CEO David Green retires on July 3, 2014. Virgen has over 17 years of healthcare experience, with 12 years at ECRMC. As COO, Virgen currently oversees all hospital operations. He has also served as a registered nurse in the hospital’s Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Medical/Surgical Unit, Obstetrics and Pediatric departments. Virgen’s leadership positions include Adult Acute Care Services Director, Critical Care Services Director, Emergency Department Director, Assistant Chief Nursing Officer, Interim Chief Nursing Officer, Interim Chief Human Resource Officer, Assistant Administrator of Development and Physician Relations, and most recently as the Chief Operations Officer. “Tomas has been an integral part of the ECRMC leadership team for several years and has successfully developed his skills as part of the ECRMC succession plan,” said Board President Alex Calderon. “He was the obvious choice to take over for David. We are confident he will continue to assist the hospital in achieving its mission for the Imperial Valley,” he added. The decision to appoint Mr. Virgen as interim CEO was confirmed during the Board’s June 24 meeting.
