Earthquake Update: Imperial County Office of Emergency Services

(August 27, 2012, EL CENTRO) – Imperial County was struck by a swarm of earthquakes today. The earthquakes have been felt most strongly in the areas of Brawley, Calipatria and Westmorland. As a result, the City of Brawley and Imperial County has activated their Emergency Operations Centers.
No deaths or critical injuries have been reported.
Earlier this afternoon, Pioneers Memorial Hospital reported a power outage, however power has been reestablished in the facility. Some patients were moved to other facilities in the region.
In Brawley 20 mobile homes moved or shifted from their foundation affecting a number of families. Staff at the Emergency Operations Center has been working with the American Red Cross to open a local shelter. The shelter will be established at Imperial Valley College Gymnasium.
City of Brawley residents are being asked to conserve water.
The Imperial Irrigation District (IID) is reporting sporadic outages throughout Imperial County, especially in Brawley. There has been no major damage to IID infrastructure and power should be reestablished. Customers that are experiencing power outages are advised to call 1800-303-7756.
