SUNBEAM LAKE – Chula Vista American Little League 9-10 year olds jumped out to an early lead on Brawley All-Stars and captured a 12-1 victory on Saturday at Sunbeam.
The game was decided quickly as Chula Vista exerted its will early with 10 runs in the first three innings.
The win for Chula Vista came as a surprising shock to Brawley’s 9-10 All-Stars, as they had not lost a game since the regular season, four months ago.
An RBI double by Christian Leyoa, a two-run double by Aaron De Casas, an RBI double by Ben Wood, and an RBI single by Joshua Ayala in the first inning, a wild pitch, and an RBI single by Kyle Chapman during the second inning fueled Chula Vista’s offense early.
Chula Vista racked up two RBIs on three hits against the Brawley team.
Chula Vista pounded Brawley pitching, as six hitters combined for 12 hits, 11 RBIs and nine runs scored.
Chula Vista coach, Javier Aguirre, had a few words to say after their victory. “I’m glad for the kids. We were worried about the heat coming out here but we came through.”
Coach Pablo Torrez of Brawley’s Little League team said that the game was a “tough loss” due to “too many fielding errors that were hard to overcome, and they put us in a bind early on in the game. The kids just couldn’t recover from them. But tomorrow, we’re guaranteed to come back stronger.”
