BRAWLEY -Â Brawley Little League Junior All Stars jumped out to an early lead on Calexico and captured a 14-2 victory and League Championship on Saturday at Brawley.
With eight runs in the first three innings, Brawley Little League Junior All Stars left no doubt about the eventual outcome.
A two-run single byÂ Jonathon Rodriguez, an RBI single byÂ George Mickle, an RBI double byÂ A.J. Torrez, and an RBI single byÂ Alex HernandezÂ during the first inning and an RBI single byÂ Robert BrodellÂ and an RBI double by Rodriguez in the second inning fueled Brawley Little League Junior All Stars’ offense early.
Pitching powerhouse A.J.Torrez kept Calexico at bay, not allowing any runs during his four innings on the mound. Due to the score, the game stopped after five innings.
Torrez said, “Before the game I was hoping for my team to back me up and to throw strikes. I feel good that I did pretty good and helped my team succeed. I’m now focused on the next game, and plan to help my team out on the defense.”
Hernandez racked up three RBIs on three hits for Brawley Little League Junior All Stars.
Coach Ralph Lopez said after the game, “We played a good team. If you noticed, the boys were ready to play. Every single kid on the team made a play. The team is united, they didn’t want their jerseys to have their names on the back, they wanted it to say “Brawley”, they play for Brawley, they play as a team.”
The coach interview was interrupted shortly by a bucket of icy water lovingly delivered by his championship team.
Brawley Little League Junior All Stars pounded Calexico pitching, as seven hitters combined for 15 hits, 13 RBIs and 14 runs scored.
