EL CENTRO — Southwest High School Eagles boys’ basketball team soared over the Imperial High Tigers, 70-49, at Southwest High here Tuesday night.

“I am very proud of the defense and communication. We stress playing defense and we did it today … we played a complete game today,” explained Sergio Rubio, Southwest Assistant Coach, after the win.

It was an even battle throughout the first half, but the Eagles’ fast-paced offense stole the momentum at the start of the second half.

Multiple three pointers and quick passes by the Eagles caused the Tigers to commit several offensive fouls.

This led to free throws for the Eagles allowing them to control the momentum and tempo of the game.

“We all brought intensity and never gave up,” said Southwest’s Martin Mendez. “We fought to the end.”
