Dorothy L. Doty
November 16, 1922 – March 31, 2016
Dorothy L. Doty, 93 of Brawley, passed away March 31, 2016 in Yuma, AZ. Dorothy was born November 16, 1922 in Calipatria, California.
She grew up in the Calipatria area and graduated from Calipatria High School. After a short time of working at the Niland School she moved to Brawley and in 1946 she went to work for Ed Rutherford as a bookkeeper.
Then when Ed and Dan Cameron formed Orita Land & Cattle Co. she assumed the bookkeeping duties of the that venture also. She remained there until 1985 when she went to work for Jack Rutherford Ranches and later on for Rutherford II until her retirement in 2003.
In the late 70’s she married Bob Doty. Together they ran the Arco Gas Station in Brawley for several years. Her favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, baking and watching NASCAR.
The Graveside Service will be held on Friday, April 15, 2016 at Riverview Cemetery at 10:00 a.m.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Bob Doty, her parents, Grace and Les Smith, her brothers, Bill and Bob Smith, and her sister, Grace Smith.
Dorothy is survived by her niece, Anna Nemlowill (Jim) of Brawley, nephew, Leslie Smith of San Diego, her step children, Debra Burns (Tim) and Dennis Doty (Tamra). She is also survived by two great nephews, two great-great nieces, two great-great nephews, and two step granddaughters. She is also survived by her close friends, Kristia Amstutz (Alan), Danielle Seegar (Blake), Chelsey Ochoa (Jason), Shelby Villavecencio (Jerry), and SD and Charlie.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to the Humane Society of Imperial Valley or Man’s Best Friend.
