Donaciana “Dora” Vásquez, age 83 of Brawley, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016. She was born on September 19, 1932, in Estanzuela, Jalisco, Mexico, to the late Jesus Ornelas and Francisca Tapia. In 1949, she relocated to Brawley and met her future husband, Aurelio Vasquez the following year.
Dora was a fan of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema and also enjoyed listening to the music of Perdo Infante and Jorge Negrete. Her hobbies included knitting and spending time with her family and friends. One of her proudest moments was when she became an American citizen in 1994.
She enjoyed her evenings with a cup of coffee watching her favorite novelas. For the last 37 years, she looked forward to attending the annual Ramona Pageant outdoor play staged in Hemet. Her generous heart filled her home with love, fun, family and friends, including an attitude that there was always room for one more. She leaves all her children and grandchildren with the knowledge that they were truly loved.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesus Ornelas and Francisca Tapia, her sister, Carmen Zermeño, and her daughters Dorita Pedroza and Norma Ruiz.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Aurelio Vasquez. Her children Jorge Vásquez of Brawley, Mercedes Segura (Richard) of San Bernardino, Rosa Vásquez of Carlsbad, and Pedro Vásquez (Melisa) of Pasadena. Dora has six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Monday, August 29, at Frye Chapel and Mortuary at 9:00 a.m.
The Chapel Service will be held on Monday, August 29, at Frye Chapel and Mortuary at 9:00 a.m.
Burial will be on Monday, August 29, at Riverview Cemetery after the Chapel Service.
