District names Belen Valenzuela interim chief financial officer


EL CENTRO – Imperial Irrigation District General Manager Kevin Kelley has appointed Belen Valenzuela, a 20-year employee of the district as interim chief financial officer. Valenzuela will fill the position starting Wednesday, July 23 and will replace current CFO, Greg Broeking who is leaving the district to pursue other interests. Valenzuela will oversee daily operations of the Finance Department.

Valenzuela began her career with IID in the Finance Department and is currently the deputy energy manager with primary responsibility for financial operations and resource optimization. A lifelong Imperial Valley resident, she holds a master’s degree in business administration and is a certified public accountant. The energy trading function she currently leads will follow her into the Finance Department.

Valenzuela looks forward to taking on the responsibility of the CFO office. “IID plays an important role to both water and energy customers in the region. I’m honored to lead the district’s financial activities as we meet our strategic objectives and positively impact the communities we serve,” said Valenzuela.


  1. Belen deserves the promotion to Interim CFO and will provide honest, analyzed financial information, so that the directors and managers can view the financial health of IID at all times. Kris Fontaine’s financial experience will also help IID make the right financial decisions.
