CALEXICO — The Calexico Recreation Department hosted its annual Father’s Day Dinner Dance Friday night at the Calexico Community Center.
“We’re celebrating Father’s Day,” explained Carmen Maldonado, an event coordinator of the Calexico Recreation Department. “This event gives the opportunity for our community members to come and have a good time and socialize.”
From 6 to 11:00 p.m., guests enjoyed dinner and then danced to a mix of live music and Mexican classics while celebrating Father’s Day. This year’s theme was “Denim & Diamonds,” and attendees wore their favorite jeans accented by diamond jewelry. The Community Center was decorated with lights, disco balls, and diamond decorations to match the theme.
“We’ve been doing this celebration for many, many years,” said Maldonado. “We always have a good turnout and we always sellout tickets. We’re always sold out. We have different themes for every event. It keeps growing, we have more and more people.”
Tickets were available for purchase a week before the event and sold out quickly, costing $5 for 55 years and over, and $10 for 54 years and under. Calexico’s Senior Health & Wellness Program is sponsored by a grant from the Hefferman Memorial Healthcare District.
“Everything turned out great for the night,” commented Maldonado. “We’re very happy.”[envira-gallery id=”79353″]
