BAKERSFIELD — It was a California State Tournament to remember for Brawley Union High Wildcat Wrestling fans as Daxton Gordon put up a valiant effort at the Bakersfield event, placing fifth at the 126-pound weight class.
The Brawley grappler has been on a roller coaster ride this year between close matches, unlucky referee decisions, and memorable victories – and the California State finals were just as memorable.
Gordon marched through the early competition before he impressively dethroned the #1 seeded, J.J. Figueroa, 5-0, in the quarterfinals. Gordon lost a close 6-7 decision in the Semi-Finals to eventual winner, Anthony Hernandez.
Along with the fifth place finish at the State Tournament, this roller coaster season has been one to remember for the Wildcats’, and for Gordon’s individual season, this has been one of the Wildcats best of all time teams.
“I am proud to have coached Dax. He is an excellent student athlete and I will miss him. Where ever he goes, he will be successful,” said Brawley Head Coach Tony Leon of Gordon.
