SACRAMENTO – Earlier this week, the California Health Benefit Exchange, now referred to as “Covered California,” released guidelines for the various health benefit plans that will be made available through the Exchange.
Covered California is charged with creating an online insurance marketplace that enables individuals and small businesses to purchase affordable health plans. As required by the federal Affordable Care Act, or commonly called Obamacare, states must have their exchanges up and running by January 2014.
Consumers will have four basic plans to choose from – Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Federal subsidies are available to households who earn less than 250 percent of the federal poverty level and purchase plans directly through the Exchange.
