EL CENTRO – Imperial County Board of Supervisors approved an MOU between the Imperial County Workforce Development Office and South Bay Workforce Investment board, Inc.
The MOU will allow the workforce agencies to participate in a multi-sector partnership to provide needed employment and training services for dislocated workers.
More than 14 workforce boards will merge to transition out-of-work employees back into gainful employment.
The workforce will be a one-stop all encompassing service to those in need of training services and employment.
Board member, Jack Terrazas, said, “It is discouraging when we sign agreements with one company to come in and hire 50 people, then the same week we hear that River Ranch is closed, Imperial Valley Press layed off 21 workers and a local orthodontist closed their doors putting 34 out of work. We take one step forward, and the next step back.
