County funds mental health counselors at IVC

IC Public Health logoEL CENTRO – Michael Horn, Director of Behavioral Health, asked the County to authorize funding of $257,229 to provide counselors to help those interested in attending Imperial Valley College as part of their mental health services.

This program is part of the mandated Mental Health Service Act (MHSA) enacted by the California voters when they passed Proposition 63 in 2004. This program provides funding for the expansion and implementation of new mental health services and programs in the Valley.

Horn told the board they serve approximately 70 clients helping them through the loopholes of enrolling at IVC and helping them secure financial aid. The County counselors are located on the college campus.
