EL CENTRO – The cities of El Centro and Mexicali, Baja California, united in sisterhood Friday, September 25, as city representatives gathered to make the treaty official at the Casa De La Cultura in Mexicali.
“I feel honored to be here to celebrate and formalize the agreement between the city of El Centro and Mexicali, Baja California. Today is a historical day for our cities,” said Efrain Silva, Mayor of El Centro.
The goal is to develop a firm, stable, and permanent relationship to benefit both cities and exchange resources to help each city prosper economically.
“As the mayor of the city of El Centro I am very proud to say that this agreement between both cities is the first in the history of El Centro,” said Silva. “El Centro is committed in making this agreement more than just a ceremony. We are committed to creating a long-lasting relationship that will benefit both communities.”
The agreement was signed by Jaime Rafael Diaz Ochoa, Presidente Municipal, Mexicali and Efrain Silva, Mayor, city of El Centro.
City leaders said the agreement should give business, tourism, education and culture a boost in addition to healthcare needs.
Witnessing the event were various city officials including City of El Centro Mayor Pro Tem, Jesse Jackson and Mexican Consul of Calexico, Carlos Flores Vizcarra.
