City of Brawley to keep streets closed by burnt building



Brawley fire department set up a defensive attack until further help arrived


BRAWLEY – The city of Brawley issued further information concerning the fire that consumed an abandoned building directly off of Main Street.


The city said that after dispatching a fire engine unit in response to a phone call at 10:35 pm Thursday night, the engine observed heavy fire conditions and set up a defensive attack.


A second alarm was called at 10:50PM with the cities of El Centro, Calipatria, Westmorland and Imperial County responding.


 Twenty five to thirty personnel were on scene, including Gold Cross, The Gas Company and IID. It took six (6) hours to fully contain the fire.


An investigation is currently ongoing with a team consisting of Brawley, County of Imperial, El Centro and Yuma Rural-Metro. There is no cause, origin or speculation at this time.


In the interest of safety, roadway closures have been implemented in the immediate vicinity which include:

  • Intersection of G Street and 8th Street
  • 8th Street from Main Street to G Street
  • G Street from 8th to midblock between 8th and 6th
