CIF Playoffs Begin


football1The CIF-San Diego Section High School Football Play off brackets have been chosen.

The Imperial Valley League Champion Brawley Wildcats will host the Westview Wolverines on Friday , November 11, at 7:00 p.m. in the Division 2 bracket.

Coach Jon Self and the Wildcats finished the regular season with a 7 – 3 record and won the Imperial Valley League crown by remaining undefeated.

The Wolverines under coach Kyle Williams were 3 – 7 on the year and 2 – 4 in the Palomar League.

In Division 4 , The Southwest Eagles are the number one seed and will have a bye the first round of the play offs. Coach John Mitosinka led the Eagles to a third place finish in the IVL with an 8 – 2 record and 3 – 2 in league play.

The Central Spartans will travel to San Diego Friday to meet the Coronado Islanders. The Spartans finished the year 3 – 7 while coach Michael Hobbs charges went 2 – 3 in IVL play. The Islanders under coach Tony Isabella were 4 – 0 in Central League games and 8 – 2 overall.

The Palo Verde Yellowjackets will host the Calexico Bulldogs on Friday night. Gearge Dagnino’s Palo Verde team was 5 – 5 overall and 1 – 4 in IVL play while coach John Tyree’s Bulldogs were 5 – 5 overall with an 0 – 5 league mark.

Mike Swearingen’s Calipatria Hornets finished the year 7 – 3 while tying for the Manzanita League title with a 3 – 1 record. The Hornets will play host to the Horizon Christian Academy Pantherss on Friday. Horizon went 4 – 5 overall and 2 – 3 in Palomar League action. Anthony Johnson is the Panthers coach.

Hotville will be on the road to Escondido to meet the Caimans of Classical Academy. Coach Keith Smiths Vikings were 5 – 5 on the season and 3 – 1 in Manzanita League play. The Caimans under coach Jon Goodman were 4 – 0 in Pacific League play with an overall 6 – 4 record.

Several Imperial Valley teams were skipped over for the play offs. The Imperial Tigers , despite finishing second in the Imperial Valley League with a 4 – 1 record , did not make the Division 2 brackets while the Vincent Memorial Scots were left out of the Division 5 play off ticket.
