EL CENTRO – On Monday, April 7, 2014 at around 5:15 a.m. Apolinar Betancourt, age 63 of Brawley was driving a 2002 Nissan Frontier, southbound on Old Highway 111 at Wildcat Drive.
At the same time a 19 year old male of Imperial was riding a 2014 Kawasaki Motorcycle, northbound on Old Highway 111 approaching Wildcat Drive.
For reasons yet to be determined, Mr. Betancourt made a left turn onto Wildcat Dr. eastbound, directly into the path of the motorcycle.
The front of the motorcycle collided into the right front of the Nissan and the rider was ejected.
This collision caused majoy injuries to the rider who was transferred to Desert Regional Medical Center by REACH Air Ambulance.
This collision is still under investigation.
