EL CENTRO – On Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at around 6:45 a.m. Maria Gonzalez age 55 of Heber was driving a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder eastbound on Correll Road, approaching the intersection with Heber Avenue.
Upon reaching the intersection a pedestrian proceeded into the crosswalk as he was running southbound across Correll Road, directly in the path of the Pathfinder.
The driver did not see the pedestrian running in front of the vehicle and did not take any evasive action.
At this time, the pedestrian struck the left front side of the Pathfinder, causing the pedestrian to be hurled into the intersection.
The impact caused major injuries to the pedestrian who was transported by Reach Air Ambulance to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs, CA.
This collision remains under investigation.
