CHP – Major Traffic Collision into United States/Mexico Border Fence


chp badgeEL CENTRO – On Monday, October 13, 2014, at around 5:30 p.m., Officer Salvador Acevedo investigated a traffic collision on Anza Road, West of Bowker Road.

Penina Reyes Martinez, age 30 of Calexico was driving her red 1999 Dodge Durango, eastbound on Anza Road, West of Bowker Road.

Martinez had a 4 year old passenger in the left rear of the Dodge.

The 4 year old child was not restrained in the vehicle, when Martinez ran off the road, traveled in a southeasterly direction toward the United States/Mexico Border fence.

The Dodge collided with the fence and then collided with the United States Border Patrol Vehicle that was parked along the border fence.

The U.S. Border Patrol vehicle was occupied by an agent from the Calexico Station.

Martinez was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Both Martinez and the 4 year old child sustained moderate injuries.

Martinez was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center and the child was transported to Rady Children’s Hospital.

The information stated above is preliminary and the incident is still under investigation.
